Leaked Footage Reveals Thruster-Equipped Land Vehicle Coming to Starfield
Leaked gameplay footage has provided a glimpse of the upcoming land vehicle in Starfield, revealing some unconfirmed features about how driving will work in the game.
Fans got their first look at Starfield's land vehicle in early May 2024, during a Bethesda video outlining future updates for the game. Around the 4:44 mark, the footage showed a four-wheel space buggy navigating a desert landscape. Bethesda has not yet confirmed when this vehicle will be available in the game or if it will be the only one of its kind.
Starfield Land Vehicle Leak Hints at Thrusters
Despite Bethesda's silence, new gameplay footage of the space rover leaked online on August 10, reportedly originating from 4chan. The 29-second clip features a player driving on what appears to be Jemison, the third planet in the Alpha Centauri system and home to Starfield's New Atlantis. The video suggests the vehicle will be equipped with thrusters, allowing it to briefly lift off the ground. This capability should help players navigate the rough terrain of Starfield's more than 1,000 planets, which were not initially designed with land vehicles in mind.
The space rover will have a stamina-like meter to manage the thrusters, which will automatically replenish when the vehicle is not in flight. This mechanic is similar to how the game handles jumping. The leaked footage also confirms that players will be able to drive Starfield's land vehicle from both first-person and third-person perspectives, the latter of which was confirmed in May 2024.
Starfield Companions to Feature New Voice Lines While Driving
Another discovery from the clip is that Bethesda has recorded new companion voice lines for this mode of transportation. The video begins with what sounds like Sarah shouting for the protagonist to "hold on tight." Interestingly, while the rover seems to have a passenger seat, Sarah is not visible in it, so her voice likely comes from the vehicle's enclosed trunk compartment.
Starfield's Land Vehicle Could Arrive in the Next Update
In addition to the gameplay footage, the leak included an image of the rover, apparently taken with Starfield's photo mode. The vehicle's doorless design and white-and-red paint job match the appearance of the one teased by Bethesda in the spring. The source of the leak claims that the eagerly awaited space buggy will be introduced in the next major Starfield update in August 2024.
