The game Mario Bros. Wonder has set a record for the fastest-selling Mario game in Europe
"Wonderful, this is truly impressive! The game #SuperMarioBrosWonder has set a record for the fastest sales among all Mario games in the history of Europe within the first three days of sales," the company announced through its social media channels. "We express our immense gratitude to everyone who contributed to this brilliant start."
At the moment, there is no information available about Wonder's sales in other regions, such as North America or Japan.
The game for the Nintendo Switch was released last week, and according to data on physical sales in the UK, it secured the third spot among the most successful physical releases of Mario games in the history of the British market, trailing only Odyssey and 3D All-Stars.
Digital sales likely contributed to making Wonder the most successful Mario game launch in the UK and Europe.
According to Christopher Dring of GamesIndustry.biz, Wonder's sales in the UK for the first week "significantly exceeded" the sales of New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe, which has sold over 16 million copies worldwide at present.
Physical sales of Wonder in the UK for the first week were 62% lower than the sales of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. However, Mario games typically remain popular and continue to sell in significant volumes for many years after their release.
"If this is a harbinger of the future of side-scrolling in the Mario universe, then we eagerly await what lies ahead."
