The console version of Catan becomes available for Nintendo Switch starting today
The well-known board game with a multiplayer mode has sold over 32 million copies since its debut in 1995.
In the game, players assume the roles of settlers on an island known as Catan, competing to build settlements, cities, roads, and armies to assert their rights to the territory.
Over the years, numerous video game adaptations have been released, with the latest being Catan: Console Edition, introduced in February for platforms such as PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One.
The Switch Console Edition port has been in development for quite some time and is now available for $19.99/ £16.99 for the standard edition.
Additionally, there are two special editions: the Deluxe Edition priced at $24.99/ £19.99, including the base game and five additional 'Championship' boards previously used in real-world Catan World, European, and American championships.
The Super Deluxe Edition, valued at $29.99/ £24.99, includes the base game, the five 'Championship' boards, and the game's first expansion, The Helpers.
This expansion introduces 12 new characters named Helpers, each with unique skills that players can use to gain an advantage in the development of their settlements.
The game offers the option to play in local or online multiplayer mode, as well as a single-player mode where players can compete against artificial intelligence, each with their unique play styles and strategies.
Similar to other versions of Catan: Console Edition, the Switch version supports the Card Companion, which players can access on their phones.
This feature allows a group of players to engage in a local competitive game on the TV without revealing their cards to others.
