Newzoo Predictions: Gaming Market 2023 Heading to $184 Billion Due to Changes in Mobile and Console Segments
Newzoo has released a new report on the state of the gaming industry. According to their findings, the sector's revenues are projected to reach $184 billion in 2023, marking a 0.6% increase from the previous year. Earlier forecasts had anticipated growth to $187.7 billion, but issues within the mobile segment and privacy constraints have tempered expectations, extending the timeline to 2026.
Legal disputes between Epic Games and Google over Play Market commissions have also impacted forecasts, leading to an anticipated 1.6% reduction in revenues from mobile platforms to $90.4 million compared to 2022.
Forecasts for console revenues have dropped from 6.9% to 1.9%. Experts attribute this to a decline in monetization metrics for games like Fortnite and Rocket League. Successful releases such as The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 have aided in improving these dynamics compared to the previous year.
The most significant revenue growth is expected in the PC segment, where earnings are projected to increase by 3.9% to $40.4 billion. This surge can be attributed to the popularity of projects like Hogwarts Legacy and Diablo 4.
