Fun Fitness Challenges For Gamers

Finding the motivation to work out can be tough. A great way to push yourself to get up and move your body more is to participate in fun fitness challenges that are aligned with your personal interests. Here are some engaging workouts for gamers that are inspired by popular video games that you can do solo or with friends to help you reach your fitness goals.

Mario Kart Challenge

Mario Kart is a classic, widely popular video game that is addictive and highly replayable. Just like the video game, this Mario Kart workout challenge is a fun multiplayer activity that is designed to resemble a Mario Kart course.

To begin, set up your course with a starting line and several cones that simulate a race track. Designate a different exercise to each cone, such as jumping jacks, squats, pushups, or high-knees. Run from the starting line to the first cone where you’ll do 10 reps of the first exercise. Once your 10 reps are complete, you’ll run to the next cone and do 10 reps of the exercise you’ve assigned to that cone. Continue this process until you’ve completed 10 reps at each cone and finish the course. To level up, you can repeat the course and challenge yourself to beat your record from the last set.

Dance Dance Revolution Challenge

Dance Dance Revolution is a game that allows you to channel your inner performer for an engaging, high-intensity workout. This challenge can be done solo, but may be more fun with a crowd. Gather some friends together and compete against each other to see how many steps you can hit without missing a beat. This workout will really get your blood pumping and have you working up a sweat in no time.

The Legend of Zelda Calisthenics Challenge

Since it is one of the most iconic video games of all time, we had to include a fitness challenge inspired by The Legend of Zelda. This challenge includes only calisthenics, or bodyweight exercises, that are inspired by Link’s movements in the game. For example, to replicate the sword swing, you can do a lunge and an overhead press. To recreate his roll, do a burpee. Challenge yourself to do 10 reps of each move, and repeat each one two or three times.

Pokemon GO Challenge

You might remember when Pokemon GO was first released and people came out in droves to walk around and catch Pokemon with their friends. If you haven’t already, download the Pokemon GO app for a fun walking challenge that will get you up, moving, and out in the fresh air. For this challenge, set a goal for yourself and your friends to walk a certain number of kilometers, or to hatch a specific number of eggs each week.

Street Fighter HIIT Challenge

This high-intensity interval training (HIIT) workout is inspired by Street Fighter. Begin by choosing a handful of high-intensity exercises such as jumping jacks, burpees, squats, and speed skaters. With each move, imagine you’re charging up a power move like a Hadouken, and use that energy to achieve explosive moves and get in a great workout.

Final Fantasy Yoga Challenge

Yoga is well-known for its “flows”, which are often soft, gentle, smooth movements that aim to improve strength, balance, and flexibility. Choose a simple yoga flow that suits your fitness goals and use the fluid motions to imagine that you are casting spells with each hand movement. If you opt for a yoga workout that requires you to hold poses for a longer period of time, such as warrior pose, you can imagine yourself holding a weapon, such as a sword, for an empowering boost.

Exercising can be fun when you combine fitness with gaming. Each of these challenges will help you be consistent with your fitness routine by gamifying your workouts and motivating you to conquer as many levels as you can.
