Rumor: The creators of Facebook are preparing a competitor for Twitch
Meta, which is known for creating the social network Facebook, is reportedly creating a streaming service designed to compete with Twitch. The functionality of the platform is very similar to Twitch, and the service is tested by a narrow circle of streamers and other famous personalities.
In Meta, the project is known by the code name “Super”. In 2020, Bloomberg called the service a clone of FaceTime, but the concept has changed over time. Facebook already has a streaming platform called Facebook Gaming, but it hasn't been very popular.
It is worth noting that there has already been a precedent in the past when a major information giant tried to enter the streaming market. Microsoft launched the Mixer service in January 2016, which they wanted to compete with Twitch. The company even tried to buy streamers to create content exclusively on Mixer. But the platform did not take off. Having existed for 4 and a half years, the service closed on July 22, 2020.
It is not yet known how the new streaming platform will affect the already existing Facebook Gaming, since the project will become a separate Meta product.
