MAD Lions received an investment from the NHL club
The Dexerto portal reports from its sources that the OverActive Media group of companies, which has the rights to the Spanish esports club MAD Lions, were able to raise about $ 40,000,000. It is noteworthy that the investor was the National Hockey League club Montreal Canadiens and two hockey players from Arizona Coyotes and Washington Capitals, Phil Kessel and Karl Hagelin, respectively.
OverActive Media not only owns MAD Lions, but also owns teams in other esports disciplines such as Call of Duty and Overwatch. In the first shooter, their interests are represented by Toronto Ultra, and in the Blizzard game, the team plays under the Toronto Defiant tag.
This is not the first time that representatives of the National Hockey League have collaborated with e-sports structures. Earlier it became known that they will organize the NHL Gaming World Championship with the approval and assistance of the famous tournament operator DreamHack.
