OCA and AESF agree to partner for the 2022 Asian Games
The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) has announced a partnership with the Asian Electronic Sports Federation (AESF) to manage the esports program of the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou.
The "Road to Asian Games" campaign for the 19th OCA Asian Games has been signed by virtually both parties in Kuwait, OCA headquarters and Hong Kong, China, where AESF is based.
Note that esports will debut as an official medal sport at the Hangzhou Asian Games after becoming a demo sport at the 18th Games in 2018.
In total, six medals will be awarded as part of the Hangzhou 2022 esports program. AESF will choose the disciplines on its own and will submit the list to OCA for approval.
According to the press release, AESF will organize and manage the regional qualifiers and the Hangzhou 2022 event itself with the full support and authority of the OCA.
The Asian Games Road Campaign will also include educational dimensions, sustainable development and heritage projects, grassroots development, career paths, health and wellness support, and an outreach initiative.
