China has developed professional qualification standards for esports athletes
Xinhua, a Chinese news agency, reported that Chinese professional computer game players must now meet a certain skill level criterion in order to maintain esports status. The development of this criterion was taken up by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security of China.
This was done with the expectation of increased training and skill assessments from computer professional players. Last year, the Chinese authorities counted some 488,000,000 esports players. This indicator exceeds the number of 2019 by 9.65%. The data was collected through the China Audio, Video and Digital Publishing Association and the China Game Development Research Institute. The above committees worked together, and therefore the data can be considered very close to plausible.
The International Olympic Committee has included computer sports in the Olympic development agenda by 2025. How the final form of the agenda will look like will become known next month.
