Brawlhalla Announces $ 1 Million Prize Pool
Online fighting game Brawlhalla has revealed the official details of its sixth season, increasing the total prize pool to $ 1 million, double the amount in previous years. The prize pool will be split between four seasons, the Pro Series and the Brawlhalla World Championship in November.
While some esports disciplines have multi-million dollar prize pools, $ 1 million is a substantial amount for the fighting game genre. This year, the official tournament for Mortal Kombat 11, one of the best-selling fighting games in recent years, has allocated only $ 60 thousand. The Capcom Cup, held in Street Fighter discipline, offered participants $ 250 thousand in 2019. Additionally, Nintendo has never been known to provide meaningful monetary support to Super Smash Bros.
What sets Brawlhalla apart from its fighting game counterparts is that it has one thing in common with the upper echelon of esports and their big prize pools - the free business model. Where most fighting games, even other indie games, are still paid for, Brawlhalla is available completely free on multiple platforms, including mobile.
