The DFL became the first professional football league to host VBundesliga tournaments. This happened in 2012.
Andreas Hayden, Executive Vice President of Digital Innovation, DFL, commented:
“The Virtual Bundesliga is already the most authentically represented football league in FIFA. We would like to further develop it as a digital discipline. In the person of ESL, we have a partner who has already proved that it can successfully organize esports competitions around the world, including in the field e-football. We want to make the VBL even more tangible and exciting, and the ESL experience will help us a lot. "
