Ludus Gaming acquires British club LDN UTD
British esports organization LDN UTD has announced its acquisition by venture capital firm Ludus Gaming. Ludus Gaming, which recently acquired game development studio NFT Look Labs, will reportedly become the majority shareholder of the club in its current form, while Daniel Gee will become CEO of LDN UTD.
Daniel Gee, new CEO of LDN UTD: "Ludus Gaming was created to advance inclusivity in gaming and the spirit of LDN UTD is a perfect match for our goal. We have explored many acquisitions, including other esports organizations, but working alongside Olli and the LDN UTD team, we knew this would be the perfect fit for our team; using our skills in building long-term commercial partnerships and brand development."
Oliver Weingarten, founder and outgoing CEO of LDN UTD, will serve as chairman of the joint venture, and James Sheehan of SM22 sports, media and finance group will join the Board of Directors as a non-executive director.
Oliver Weingarten, Chairman of LDN UTD: "I have consistently stated that it is critical that LDN UTD partner with partners who believe in the values and spirit of LDN UTD and want to continue to push it forward by innovating at every opportunity. I want to thank the many people for their support in reaching this stage of the journey, too many to name today, but to the advisors, brands, and stakeholders who bought LDN UTD, who placed their trust in LDN UTD, and who supported me, my sincere thanks."
The LDN UTD organization was founded in the summer of 2018. During this time, the British club partnered with Alienware, Dell, HyperX and noblechairs, and expanded into FIFA and League of Legends disciplines. However, the organization found its greatest fame in VALORANT, where it teamed up with OG in the spring.
In addition, LDN UTD also has its own educational initiative called "UTD EDN" which helps young talents take their first steps in esports. The organization also ran campaigns to combat racism, promote diversity, fight crime, and support the mental and physical well-being of players and fans.
