OverActive Media Announces MAD Lions Leadership Changes

OverActive Media, the parent company behind the MAD Lions, Toronto Ultra, and Toronto Defiant organizations, has announced a change in leadership at its Spanish esports organization. As a result of the changes, Ricardo Gómez-Asebo Botin will be appointed as the new head of European business, while former vice president of strategy Jorge Schnura will be appointed as the club's consultant.

Botin's role now is to guide the Department of Finance and Human Resources across the Atlantic in Canada. In addition, he will be responsible for integrating MAD Lions into Overactive Media's global business structure.

He has worked with Shnura for the past four years, most recently as head of the organization's business operations in Europe. In addition, Botin helped arrange the sale of MAD Lions to OverActive in 2019.

Speaking about the change in leadership, Chris Overholt, President and CEO of OverActive Media, stated that Jorge's entrepreneurial spirit has been a key part of the club's progress and growth in the European market.

OverActive Media, which posted a $15.4 million loss in 2021, owns a wide range of esports teams, including franchised slots in Call of Duty and Overwatch League, as well as Riot Games' LEC. Most recently, the company expanded its partnership with Canadian banking and financial services company TD Bank Group.

Shnura was a founding member of MAD Lions in 2017 prior to its acquisition. He led the organization's restructuring and rebranding efforts, which included the takeover of the Splyce LEC team under the MAD Lions brand. In addition, Shnura has established a high performance center in Madrid, Spain. His departure from the leadership of MAD Lions will officially take place at the end of July.
