Mesut Ozil is going to become an esportsman
Professional German football player Mesut Ozil is about to start his esports career, quoting his agent Erkut Sogut. This is exactly what the 33-year-old German footballer himself wants, since he actively plays eSports games and also owns a professional eSports organization.
The former German international who had a stellar career at clubs such as Schalke 04, Arsenal and Real Madrid is currently under contract with Turkish side Fenerbahce. However, he is reportedly not in the first team's plans after his fitness level was called into question.
According to Mesut's agent, Erkut Sogut, the 33-year-old may give up his football duties for esports once his contract comes to an end in a few years.
When Mesut retires, he will become a professional gamer. He will do more esports, play by himself and maybe become an esports player. To be honest, he is really good at Fortnite. I wouldn't be surprised if he starts playing competitively. He owns a team - M10 Esports, which includes FIFA and Fortnite rosters. He has a bootcamp in Germany.
As his agent mentioned, Ozil owns M10 esports, an organization founded in 2018 that competes in both FIFA and Fortnite.
Interestingly, Ozil is not the only football player who is fond of eSports. In 2020, David Beckham was announced as the co-owner of the British esports organization Guild Esports. Similarly, Manchester City star Kun Aguero is the founder and CEO of KRÜ Esports, an organization. In turn, Casemiro, the current Real Madrid player, continues to develop his Case Esports brand.
