League of Legends - why do so many clubs want to get into the league?
Alex "Magician" Slabukhin is theformer CEO of the well-known esports organization HellRaisers. In his blog, he spoke about the esports part of League of Legends.
In the CIS, historically, 2 games are popular - CS:GO and Dota 2. Then came PUBG. As a result, the clubs work with those squads, where there are numbers that are interesting to the partners. But among all the games there is the holy grail - League Of Legends. What is the peculiarity of this game and why do all clubs want to get a slot?
Since the publisher is Riot, any betting/gambling companies are prohibited.
In leagues, there are payments from the developer, 50% of which the club is obliged to pay as wages to the players. And what to do with the rest - the club decides.
LoL hasa slot system, i.e. the club has 2 options to get into the league: either agree with other clubs to buy the slot or agree with Riot. For example, if your club enters, it will give a bus to the company, league and region.
Riot very clearly and strictly regulates the rulesand relationships between players and clubs. Therefore, everyone knows that it is possible to conduct business purely here (For example, without the permission of the club, I cannot contact his player to discuss the transfer)
In LoL, if you look at the prize money, it is several times lower than Dota 2. So why does everyone want to get there and this discipline is No. 1 in eSports?Firstly, this is the price of the slot, which is growing every year. At one time, when they planned to enter LoL, the price in the CIS was about$50 thousand, in Europe the slot cost $3-5 million, America - about$8-10 million, China/Asia -$15-20 million. Now the price in many regions has increased almost 2-3 times. Therefore, it is an asset that grows over time.
Secondly, all sponsors' premium contracts are in LoL. If you don't have a LoL roster in your club, then everything else has no value either (Except for the CIS - here the discipline is almost of no interest to anyone). The LoL ecosystem is very clear and clean, where there is control from the publisher, so sponsors are easy to come by for good numbers and quality audiences.
