FAW-Audi becomes title sponsor of Weibo Gaming
Chinese esports organization Weibo Gaming has announced a sponsorship deal with FAW Group and Volkswagen Group joint venture FAW-Audi. As part of the deal, the automotive brand will become the title sponsor of the club's League of Legends team.
While Weibo Gaming is rebranding, the classic Audi logo will appear on the left chest of the team's LPL Summer 2022 jersey. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed by the parties.
FAW-Audi is a subsidiary brand of FAW Group and Volkswagen Group, a large scale joint venture between China Faw Group, German Volkswagen AG, Audi AG and Volkswagen (China) Investment. This is the second time that FAW-Audi has sponsored a team from the LPL. On the eve of the League of Legends World Championship 2020, the brand signed a sponsorship agreement with the TOP Esports team.
In addition to Weibo Gaming, seven of the seventeen LPL teams partner with car manufacturers: Invictus Gaming, FunPlus Phoenix, Royal Never Give Up, Bilibili Gaming, Edward Gaming, TOP Esports and Victory Five are sponsored by Chevrolet, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Morris Garage, Hiken, FAW-Audi and BYD Auto respectively.
Recall that in November last year, Weibo acquired a franchise slot in the LPL from Suning Gaming and Chinese e-commerce giant Suning.
Weibo Gaming is currently playing as part of the LPL Summer 2022. The championship will last until mid-August, offering participants a prize pool of $627,938, as well as a ticket to the World Championship 2022.
