Version1 Announces Support for Undergraduate Scholarship Program
North American esports organization Version1 has announced the start of sponsorship of a scholarship program for students of historically black colleges and universities (HBCU). Created through Version1's partnership with non-profit esports body Cxmmunity, the program will provide a total of $25,000 in scholarships for the upcoming academic year.
Recall that Version1 and Cxmmunity first launched a scholarship program last academic year. The program aims to provide opportunities for the development of future generations of talent in the gaming industry and to improve the representation of people of various races in the gaming industry.
Version1 will provide $20,000 in scholarship funding to be shared among four successful students based on their applications. The remaining $5,000 will be awarded as prize money to the first place teams in the Student Esports Tournament participating in Cxmmunity's HBCU Esports League.
Students of any age attending an HBCU-sponsored institution during the 2022-2023 academic year can apply for a scholarship. This is an expansion from last year that was previously limited to second and third year students.
Applications are open until September 30 and are accepted on the official Version1 website, while their results will be published in October 2022. To apply, applicants must demonstrate a passion for gaming and/or prove how their pursuit of a college degree will support a career in gaming or esports.
