Lamborghini creates an eSports team
Italian car brand Lamborghini, owned by the Volkswagen Group, has launched its own esports team and signed three drivers to its roster. The Automobili Lamborghini Esports team will compete in the GT World Challenge Esports Championship in Assetto Corsa Competizione.
The roster of the Automobili Lamborghini Esports team is as follows: Jordan Sherrat, Gianfranco Giglioli and Giorgio Simonini.
Giorgio Sanna, Head of Motorsports at Automobili Lamborghini: "Car simulators are an important platform in today's motorsports. Video games were born to allow those who did not have the opportunity to actually race to impersonate professional drivers. Now, after several decades of development in the industry, simulators are getting closer and closer to their real-life counterpart, and now they have nothing to envy about professional motorsport."
The new members of Lamborghini's esports team will reportedly be supported directly by Squadra Corse, Lamborghini's own racing team. The car company will also dedicate a team leader, driver, coach and engineers to the esports project. Employees will help by offering their experience in the development and analysis of telemetry data.
Company representatives said they were impressed with the success of Real Race, which Lamborghini founded in 2020. Lamborghini has also announced the return of the Real Race in 2022, with dates to be announced in the coming weeks.
