ESL signs new agreement with Huya
Tournament organizer ESL has announced an exclusive media rights partnership with Chinese platform Huya. The renewed partnership agreement is for two years.
Exclusive streaming rights under the deal will include Dota 2 and ESL Mobile Ecosystems, as well as the ESL Pro Tour of CS: GO and StarCraft II. Huya will be covering tournaments in Standard Mandarin and other Chinese dialects. The deal is in addition to an agreement between the two parties last July that resulted in Huya acquiring the tournament rights from ESL for CS: GO and Dota 2.
Frank Uddo, Senior Vice President, Global Media at ESL Gaming:“Huya is undoubtedly the leading eSports streaming platform in China and we could not be more pleased to announce that we are joining forces with them to should become ESL's first long-term partner in China. "
Note that in September 2019, Modern Times Group, the parent company of ESL and DreamHack, tried to enter into a strategic joint agreement with Huya, as a result of which the platform will acquire a minority stake in ESL. A few months later, in January 2020, it became known that the two companies terminated the agreement by mutual agreement.
