The trend for movie theater companies to partner with esports brands is not new. Recently, American film company Cinemark and esports firm Mission Control partnered to bring esports to cinemas across the United States. In addition, in 2018, the finals of IEM Katowice 2018, in which Fnatic and FaZe Clan played, were shown in a number of UK cinemas.

As part of the 2019 World Championship, a number of cinemas in Europe also broadcast the final between G2 Esports and the Chinese team Fun Plus Phoenix. More than 45 cinemas broadcast the 2019 finale in Spain alone, and dozens more cinemas across Europe have joined the initiative.
