Netflix Announces Comedy Film About Forgotten Crypto Wallet with $35 Million
Netflix continues to explore cryptocurrency themes in its content, announcing a new comedy titled "One Attempt Remaining". The film tells the story of a divorced couple who accidentally discover that the cryptocurrency they won during a cruise is now worth millions, but they've forgotten the wallet password. According to the plot, the heroes receive a message from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, giving them only 48 hours to regain access to the $35 million before the claim expires. The lead role in the film will be played by Jennifer Garner, known for films like "Elektra" and "Dallas Buyers Club." The film's release date has not yet been announced, but the announcement has sparked interest in the crypto community due to the relevance of the lost assets theme.
This story is inspired by real cases in the crypto world, where billions of dollars remain locked due to forgotten passwords. For example, former Ripple CTO Stefan Thomaslost access to an IronKey hard drive containing 7002 BTC, currently valued at approximately $640 million. The drive allows only 10 password attempts, after which the data is erased forever - Thomas has already used 8 attempts and still hasn't regained access. According to Chainalysis, as of 2025, over 20% of all Bitcoin (about 3.7 million coins) are considered lost forever due to similar issues, amounting to over $300 billion at current rates. Analysts from Glassnode note that with BTC's price rising to $95,000 in December 2025, such stories become even more painful for owners.
The film "One Attempt Remaining" is not the first time Netflix has turned to crypto themes. Previously, the streaming service released the documentary "Trust No One: The Hunt for the Crypto King" (2022) about the collapse of the QuadrigaCX exchange, where founder Gerald Cotten allegedly took passwords to $190 million in client funds with him after his death. An adaptation of the book "Going Infinite" about the fall of FTX and Sam Bankman-Fried is also in preparation. Additionally, in 2020, the thriller "Money Plane" was released with elements of crypto heists. These projects reflect Hollywood's growing interest in blockchain, where real dramas often surpass fiction.
In the crypto community, the announcement has elicited mixed reactions: some joke about their own "forgotten" wallets, while others criticize it for oversimplifying serious security issues. On Reddit and X, users share stories of lost assets, emphasizing the importance of hardware wallets and seed phrases. According to a CoinMarketCap survey, 15% of crypto investors have encountered access issues with their funds at least once. Netflix is likely banking on the hype around the 2025 crypto market boom, where total capitalization has exceeded $3 trillion, to attract attention from both crypto enthusiasts and regular viewers.
This film could become another step in popularizing cryptocurrencies, similar to how series like "Squid Game" influenced trends in DeFi and NFTs.
