YZi Labs Invests in Renewal Bio: A Revolutionary Step in Regenerative Medicine to Overcome Organ Shortages
The investment company YZi Labs, known for its investments in Web3, artificial intelligence, and biotechnology, has announced an investment in the biotechnology company Renewal Bio. This is YZi Labs' first investment in biotechnology since rebranding from Binance Labs at the beginning of 2025. The goal of the investment is to support the development of regenerative medicine technologies to address the global problem of organ and cell shortages for transplantation.
Renewal Bio, an Israeli startup founded on technologies from Jacob Hanna's laboratory at the Weizmann Institute, specializes in creating synthetic embryos from stem cells. The company uses the Stembroid platform, which enables the production of DNA-identical stem cells and organoids. This technology is aimed at producing tissues, organs, and cells, such as hematopoietic stem cells for treating leukemia and immune disorders. According to Renewal Bio representatives, their approach involves mimicking natural embryo development in artificial conditions, which could revolutionize transplantology, fertility, and body rejuvenation.
The investment will accelerate preclinical developments, bringing the technology closer to clinical application. The investment amount is not disclosed, but YZi Labs, which manages assets exceeding $10 billion, emphasizes a focus on high-impact projects.
"We invest in transformative technologies that can change the world," states the YZi Labs announcement on the X platform.
Renewal Bio already has significant achievements: their laboratory has created synthetic mouse embryos that develop in artificial wombs to the stage with a heartbeat and organs, achieving 95% similarity to natural ones. The company plans to adapt this for human cells, with potential applications in treating infertility, rejuvenating the immune system, and creating organs for transplantation. However, the technology raises ethical questions, including the status of synthetic embryos and potential abuses. To avoid controversies, developers plan genetic modifications to prevent full development.
This investment highlights the growing interest of venture capital in biotechnology, especially in the context of the global transplantation crisis, where millions of people are waiting for organs. YZi Labs, founded by Changpeng Zhao (CZ) and Yi He, continues to expand its portfolio, including a recent $1 billion fund for projects on the BNB Chain.
Experts believe that the partnership between YZi Labs and Renewal Bio could accelerate a breakthrough in regenerative medicine, potentially saving millions of lives.
