DJs 3LAU and Steve Aoki formed a group inspired by the Crypto Punks collection

Steve Aoki, along with Justin '3LAU' Blau, announced an interesting collaboration that awaits them. The musicians said that they will now work in the same direction in the EDM genre, but under new banners. They will collaborate under the pseudonym Punx, which refers to Crypto Punks (and is consonant with the word Punks).

The sound producers have been inspired by the non-fungible tokens from the CryptoPunks collection and, as strong supporters of this movement, will interact directly with NFTs and the Ethereum blockchain. Thus, they want to release new music, which can later become non-fungible tokens. At the beginning of their new activities, the sound producers decided to refrain from such an idea. The musicians also announced their intention to create something really unique and try to invent a new style of electronic music.

The performers kept silent about the details regarding the methods of such a solution. Perhaps they will use unusual musical instruments for their own purposes, which can be safely called futuristic. These include Alpha Sphere, Lumen, Seabord, Jamstik + and others. However, different quality and variety of sound can be achieved without their help, using only computers and sequencers. It remains only to wait and hear what exactly this unusual music duo wants to record.

For Punx, the development towards non-fungible tokens will not be the first experience. In 2021, the duo released the joint song Jenny as NFT, but for now, as previously stated, 3LAU and Steve Aoki will hold off on such an idea.

Steve Aoki has previously stated that one of the reasons for his commitment to the NFT sector is tangible earnings. He reported that with the help of non-fungible items he was able to earn more than his ten years of achievements achieved with the help of record companies. He also explained the field of NFT tokens and Web3 technology as the inspiration for his friend 3LAU to form the duo Punx:

Over the past few years, we've traveled together through the crazy world of Web3. We can't wait to share with the world the new sound and all the crazy ideas we had in the studio.

According to him, the new project will have long-term ambitions:

Punx is a visionary, visionary musical art project that pays homage to the music we love and the music that has shaped us today. Using our own Crypto Punks in visuals is just the beginning of how we plan to bring the incredible Web3 community to this project.

After Steve and 3LAU made a joint post on their Twitter accounts, their avatars on this social network were changed to Crypto Punks NFT tokens. Aoki set himself item #6748, which was purchased in September for 89.95 Ethereum, equivalent to $147,000. His friend Justin '3LAU' Lau, in turn, put a more modest image on the avatar, Crypto Punks #6708 at a price tag of 29.99 Ethereum, which is about $51,000 in dollar terms.

Music artists used their NFT tokens to create a new image derived from their items. This does not violate the right to commercialize intellectual property, which was granted by the project owner Yuga Labs. The latter first popularized such a concept last year with the release of the legendary Bored Ape Yacht Club collection of non-fungible tokens.

Decrypt interviewed 3LAU, in which he said that their style touched Crypto Punks purely by chance due to the fact that his friend Steve Aoki got into the habitat of this industry.

Other cases have been seen previously of artists using their NFT tokens as avatars. An example is the DJ duo EscapePlan. Another famous case was the label Universal Music Group, which organized the project 10:22 PM, aimed at Web3 technology. The music company has succeeded in putting together a virtual group called Kingship, consisting of members of the Bored Ape Yacht Club. Producers Hit-Boy and James Fauntler will be contributing with Kingship, while the legendary Timbaland launched his company in 2021 to release music from artist members of the Bored Ape Yacht Club.

Justin Lau also said that he would not like to infringe the intellectual property rights of Crypto Punks, as the performers take such matters seriously.

Punx will continue the movement of EDM sound producers teaming up with each other to conquer the world of Web3 technology and NFT tokens. Earlier it became known about the collaboration of famous artists Deadmau5 and Kaskade, who in 2022 released tracks under the common pseudonym Kx5.
