Apple Forced Coinbase Wallet Creators to Support NFTs

Coinbase has announced that Apple has banned them from supporting the transaction of non-fungible tokens in the Coinbase Wallet app on mobile devices running iOS. If you delve into the rules, then Apple also allows such transactions, however, they require the payment of a commission of 30% for financial transfers of any type, which are used for this inside applications on iOS. The payment of the commission also applies to the gas used in transactions with non-fungible tokens:

You may have noticed that you are no longer able to send NFTs in the Coinbase Wallet iOS app. This is because Apple has blocked the latest version of our app until we disable this feature. Apple states that the gas required for a transaction must be routed through their internal purchasing system and subject to a 30% fee.

Coinbase reported that Apple does not understand how the blockchain works and it is simply impossible to fulfill their requirements, which is why they limit the ability of crypto enthusiasts to operate on iOS platforms:

For those who understand how blockchain works, it is clear that this is not possible. Their purchase system does not support cryptocurrencies and we cannot fulfill the requirement even if we tried to do so.

Coinbase made an interesting analogy to make it easier to understand what Apple wants to achieve. According to them, the company seems to want to receive money for any emails that are sent over the Internet. Representatives of this platform report that Apple has such a policy solely to maintain and increase the profits of investors in NFT tokens and innovative developments in the field of cryptocurrencies. However, such a course of events is unlikely to help them due to the peculiarities of the blockchain and the process of sending non-fungible tokens.

Apple's app policy is pretty strict. They have repeatedly declared the complete absence of compromises and want to have 30% of every transaction made on their platform. Epic Store Games was involved in an unpleasant story with this, which released Fortnite on smartphones running iOS and found a loophole with which users could buy in-game money bypassing the Apple system.

When the Steve Jobs company found out about this, they removed the application until they pay compensation for the damage caused and withholding the money that Apple relies on. The situation grew in scale and spilled over into a lawsuit, and Fortnite was then removed not only from the App Store, but also from Google Play. At the moment, you can play Fortnite on mobile devices, but this requires you to download the game directly from the Epic Games website.
