Evil Geniuses and Complexity Gaming risk missing out on the first qualifier for IEM Road to Rio

According to the portal Dust2, the North American teams Evil Geniuses and Complexity Gaming risk missing the first open qualifier for IEM Road to Rio. The main concerns are related to the difficult schedule of the teams, as they will have to leave North America to participate in BLAST Premier: Fall Groups 2022. At the same time, another team from the region, Team Liquid, will not be affected by this problem, since the "liquid" ones managed to directly get to the RMR tournament.

Despite all the difficulties, Evil Geniuses can play the situation and use one of two spare lineups to send it to BLAST Premier: Fall Groups 2022. Yet Complexity Gaming has no options, as the team will have to lose one of four attempts to get to IEM Road to Rio.

While both teams will have other opportunities to qualify for the Americas RMR tournament, Complexity Gaming and Evil Geniuses are likely to jump at any chance after a poor start to the year. The situation is exacerbated by the fact that both teams will most likely present updated rosters in the coming weeks.

Stewie2K is known to be leaving Evil Geniuses, while recent reports also indicate that RUSH will also be removed from the team's roster. In addition, Tc, the coach of Complexity Gaming, hinted in a recent interview about the upcoming changes in his team roster.

A potential solution for ESL could be to postpone the first qualifier, but there is very little room left for the qualifier. ESL Pro League Season 16 essentially covers the whole of September, while Fragadelphia 17 will take place on the first weekend of September.

IEM Road to Rio Open Qualifier Schedule for the Americas

North America:

  • First open qualifier: August 15-17.
  • Second open qualifier: 31 August - 2 September.
  • Third Open Qualifier: September 3-5.

South America:

  • Second Open Qualifier: August 20-22.
  • Third open qualifier: August 25-27.

IEM Rio Major 2022 will take place from October 31 to November 13 in Brazil. The first two stages of the championship will be held in a studio format. However, the playoffs of IEM Rio Major 2022, which is scheduled for November 10-13, will be held at the Jeunesse Arena, which can accommodate from 15,000 to 22,000 people. Like at the last major, the prize pool of IEM Rio Major 2022 will be $1,000,000.
