Richard Lewis announces his retirement from esports
Famous British journalist Richard Lewis has announced his retirement from esports. The 40-year-old analyst made the corresponding statement during a live broadcast on his Twitch channel, citing the lack of pleasure from work.
When was the last time I enjoyed esports? I haven't had fun here in a long time. This industry is garbage. I hate her and came to the conclusion that this feeling is too strong.
I have donated to this sphere for 17 years... and for what? To watch all the cancers that come on stage metastasize? I used to want to fight to stop them, but I lost the fight
Lewis is known for his investigations, in particular, it was the Briton who had a hand in the suspension of the North American team iBUYPOWER for participating in match-fixing. In January 2015, the journalist published an article about fake matches involving the club in August 2014. As a result, Valve found the team guilty and gave four players a lifetime ban from tournaments.
Before finally leaving esports, the British journalist will complete several of his big investigations for the Dexerto portal, where he worked as a consulting editor. Lewis will also stop any production of esports content, including the By The Numbers podcast.
Note that in recent years, Richard Lewis has worked as a host and analyst at major championships, including MLG Major Championship: Columbus 2016, DreamHack Open Cluj-Napoca 2015, ELEAGUE CS:GO Premier 2017 and PGL Major Stockholm 2021. In addition, the Briton was also part of the tournament operator ELEAGUE.
In addition, Lewis has repeatedly covered the unfair behavior of tournament operators, esports organizations or individual representatives of the professional scene. In 2016 and 2019, the Brit's work was twice awarded the prestigious Cybersports Journalist of the Year award.
