ESL Plans to Host Fall Major in Brazil
According to Dexerto, tournament operator ESL is planning to host the Fall 2022 Major in Brazil. According to sources, there is already a preliminary agreement to hold a championship called the IEM Rio Major. It is expected that the tournament will be held from October 31 to November 13.
If confirmed, this event will mark ESL's return to mainstream hosting duties after two previous events of this magnitude were hosted by StarLadder and PGL.
Note that back in the autumn of last year, ESL announced that it was discussing with Valve the holding of a championship of this magnitude in Rio de Janeiro. At the same time, the first idea to hold the tournament in Brazil had to be abandoned back in 2020, as the outbreak of the coronavirus forced the organizers to postpone the event, and then completely cancel it.
It is still unclear which venue will be ESL's choice for organizing the IEM Rio Major. In 2020, the tournament's playoffs were scheduled to take place in front of a live audience at the Jeunesse Arena, an indoor multi-purpose arena.
At the same time, they plan to hold two majors in 2022, one of which will be held in May. Moreover, the name of the tournament organizer is still unknown.
Recall that on the eve of the Savvy Gaming Group, supported by the State Investment Fund of the Government of Saudi Arabia, acquired ESL and FACEIT for $1.5 billion.
