The information appeared that Japan joined the list of countries that recognize esports as official kind of sports. Esports organization of Japan stated that professional esports players will get a corresponding status by getting a pro-license, which is a special permission. Until then, Japan could not submit players to the professional arena because of the fight against gambling in the country. Due to the adopted laws, caused by the fight against online casinos, esports organizations were under the pressure, as they lost the possibility to sale tickets to the tournaments with money prize pools in Japan. In the result, the country was lost for the esports industry.
