Digital Foundry reported on their website that they contacted Sony to find out that a constant online connection would not be required to run games with discs, as on past consoles.

Recently there was a presentation of the PS5 interface. Users, after seeing the official help function, which requires an online connection, in the Control Center menu, accessible from any game, began to fear a permanent connection to the network. Digital Foundry has taken it upon itself to contact Sony and finally confirm this hypothesis or disprove it.

Sony Vice President for Platforms Hideaki Nishino consoled all users and assured that there could be no talk of the impossibility of running the required code directly from the disk. Nevertheless, the question of players who own a console without a floppy drive, who want to run the downloaded game on their device, remained open. Whether it will be possible to launch various titles without an online connection is currently unknown.

The PlayStation 5 will launch in Canada and the US on November 12, and the rest of the world on November 19. The console will be supplied in two variants with one color. The version without a floppy drive will cost $ 399, and with a floppy drive - $ 499.

PS5 fans have created a startup in which they can offer fans of the Japanese game console three additional panel options for the PlayStation 5. You can read more about this here.
