Peak 1.44.a Patch Notes: Scout Cannon Buffs And Key Fixes In Latest Update

The latest PEAK patch notes outline a substantial update that reshapes one of the game’s most notorious tools and addresses a long-standing technical issue that has lingered since launch. The Scout Cannon, an item players have pushed far beyond its intended use, sits at the center of this revision. Developers have taken notice of how frequently scouts relied on the cannon’s quirks and decided to lean into the behavior rather than pull it back.

The update now allows the Scout Cannon to launch zombies, a practical change for anyone working through the dense hazards of the Roots biome. The item’s weight has been cut from six to four, a shift that should make it a more reasonable companion in any pack. Other small but meaningful adjustments include easier exits and shorter forced ragdoll time, details that smooth out the feature without changing its identity. The game’s speedrunning community will likely test the limits of these tweaks within hours, though the patch’s intent is not to restrain the cannon’s role but to clarify it.

Alongside the equipment adjustments, the update finally resolves a controller sensitivity issue that dates back to the game’s original release. Developers acknowledged that gamepad sensitivity had been tied to framerate since launch. With that error removed, players who rely on controllers will need to recalibrate movement and look settings the next time they climb. The fix removes an inconsistency that quietly shaped the experience for anyone playing outside a locked framerate.

A number of visual and functional corrections round out the patch. Items that clipped through terrain or behaved unpredictably after the Roots update have been reworked. The Book of Bones no longer produces errant visuals when paired with the Third Eye accessory. Checkpoint Flags now place returning scouts slightly above ground level, cutting down on collision snaps. Zombie footsteps had been playing from the wrong position, and that oversight is now addressed. Combined with tweaks to climbing, cooking, and item interaction, the update targets a broad collection of edge-case frustrations accumulated over months of play.
