EA also confirmed that the day-one patch is mandatory for launch access. While the total installation may exceed 120 GB on next-gen consoles, players can pre-load assets early to minimize launch-day delays. The company noted that the updated compression system will streamline future patches without requiring full reinstalls.

In addition, the studio clarified one of the community’s biggest debates: Open vs. Closed Weapons.
“Lastly, another key insight from the Open Beta was that the vast majority of players, after trying both playlist types, chose to stick with Open Weapons,” BF Studios said. “This reinforces our belief that Open Weapons is the right path forward for Battlefield 6. At the same time, we recognize that some players prefer the Closed Weapons experience. To support them, official Closed Weapons playlists will be available at launch. Additionally, Closed Weapons mutators will remain part of the Portal toolset, so players can create and share their own custom experiences.” — Battlefield Studios Team
The Battlefield 6 Season 1 Roadmap begins later this month with new maps, weapons, and vehicles on October 28, followed by two major updates on November 18 and December 9.
EA also released a Live-Action Trailer highlighting the game’s “back-to-basics” tone. The trailer focuses on grounded modern warfare and large-scale battles instead of futuristic gimmicks, signaling a confident return to Battlefield’s classic identity.
Battlefield 6 officially launches on October 10 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
