Helldivers 2 Patch 01.003.000 is here — new enemies, weapon progression, and store changes
A major update has arrived in Helldivers 2 — Patch 01.003.000, and it’s definitely worth your attention. The update introduces new enemies from the Illuminate faction, a full weapon customization and progression system, and changes to the Superstore. The update is now live on PC and PlayStation 5.
Let’s start with the biggest highlight: the Illuminate are back, and this time it’s a full-scale invasion. Arrowhead had been teasing their return for a while, and now they’re finally part of the battlefield. Three new enemy types have been added:
- Stingray — aerial units that swoop in from above and execute precise strafing runs.
- Crescent Overseer — capable of targeting areas where players are trying to take cover, applying pressure even when you're hiding.
- Fleshmob — a failed Illuminate experiment made from Voteless parts. Essentially a tough brute on the battlefield that’ll take serious effort to take down.

The developers also teased even larger ships on the horizon, though details are still under wraps. It’s likely these will be part of future missions or events.
A big addition that’s sure to please players is the introduction of weapon leveling and customization. Most primary weapons now have levels that increase by completing missions. Leveling up unlocks new modules — including scopes, magazines, muzzles, under-barrel attachments — and even visual patterns. These can be acquired through Requisition. This system gives you the flexibility to adapt weapons to your playstyle, whether that means better accuracy, higher ammo capacity, or reduced recoil.

Also worth noting: on May 15, a new set of FRV patterns will become available, themed around Viper Commandos, Freedom's Flame, Chemical Agents, and Truth Enforcers. All of these will drop with the Masters of Ceremony Warbond.
The Superstore has also been reworked. Now, you can buy any item you want at any time — no more waiting for them to rotate back in. Great news for players who’ve missed out on rare gear in the past.
And finally, the update includes a hefty balance patch: adjustments to weapon handling, melee stamina costs, shrapnel behavior, and fire damage. Overall, these changes aim to make the combat feel tighter and more rewarding.
If you felt like you had already “seen everything” Helldivers 2 had to offer, now’s a great time to jump back in. With all the new features and content, there’s plenty to dig into — and more than enough challenge to keep you busy.
