Modders Are Already Fixing STALKER 2, One Duty Quest at a Time

So, the STALKER 2 mod scene is officially alive, and Volucris, a name some of you might recognize, just dropped a small but meaningful addition to the Zone. This new Stalker 2 mod brings back two side quests for the Duty faction that were cut from the final game.

They're not flashy, they’re not voice-acted, but they're part of that gritty, immersive Zone storytelling we’ve come to expect from the series.

"This is a simple/small mod that restores what the devs have already created. In other words, it does not add brand new missions or quests."

This one’s not rewriting the game or adding big gameplay mechanics. Instead, it’s doing the work that modders have always done best in the STALKER community — restoring, refining, and preserving what might otherwise be lost.

Volucris dropped a similar mod back in April that revived the The Last Days quest. That makes this new Duty restoration part of a bigger trend — finding and reactivating cut content that’s still hiding in the game files. Anyone who's been modding since Shadow of Chernobyl knows the drill: STALKER games are treasure chests of leftover assets, unused dialogue, and half-finished NPC interactions.

"There isn’t any voice acting for dialogues, or any new animations. Still, I’m certain that some STALKER 2 fans may find them interesting."

Now, let’s zoom out. This kind of work is exactly what helped build the original STALKER legacy. Mods like AMK, OGSE, Lost Alpha, and Anomaly didn’t just add new features — they turned broken or unfinished releases into sprawling cult masterpieces. Shadow of Chernobyl in 2007 had rough edges, but fans didn't wait for official fixes. They started soldering their own Geiger counters.

And now, STALKER 2 is heading down the same path — even though it’s still fresh off its April patch.

Speaking of which, GSC Game World’s last official update (April 25th) did improve performance and fixed a few crash points, but it didn’t touch the elephant in the room: A-Life 2.0, the dynamic world system that still feels unpredictable and buggy as hell. The devs have promised more updates soon, but there’s no clear ETA.

"According to the game’s roadmap, we can expect some tweaks and improvements in the next couple of patches. However, there is no exact ETA on when we’ll get the next patch."

Still, don’t sleep on what’s coming. GSC has been pretty open about their long-term plans to overhaul Stalker 2 in the months after launch — we’re talking full-on gameplay reworks, deeper faction systems, and more stable AI behavior. The release version of Stalker 2 will likely look very different by 2026, assuming they stick the landing.

Modders are already doing the heavy lifting. Want parkour movement? There's a mod for that. Want to fast-travel across the Zone? Got you covered. Want to loot every mutant corpse like in the old games? That mod dropped back in December.

Hell, someone even made a no-weight-limit mod — not exactly my thing (the whole point of STALKER is that you suffer), but hey, freedom of choice, right?

"You can also download a mod that will remove the inventory carry/weight limit. I’m not a fan of this last mod, but hey, some of you may like it."

And of course, there are already mods improving visuals, adding GTAO, and making the Zone look even more desolate and beautiful than it already does.

So yeah, Stalker 2 is still cooking. And if you're a Duty fan or just want more content in your playthrough, grab Volucris’ mod and take it for a spin. It’s not flashy, but it’s authentic. That’s the magic of this community — restoring scraps into story, giving life to forgotten missions, and keeping the Zone weird and alive.
