Minecraft Fans Get First Look at Crab Mob Ahead of Mob Vote

Minecraft enthusiasts are in for a treat as Mojang Studios unveils the crab mob, one of the contenders to be introduced to the game in an upcoming update. In a newly released animated video, Mojang showcases the crab, the first of three potential new mobs that players can vote for in the Minecraft Live 2023 event starting on October 13.

Minecraft Live, initially known as Minecon before its rebranding in 2019, serves as a celebration of Mojang's iconic game. It's a platform where the developer unveils upcoming features, mobs, and more for Minecraft in the following year. In a bid to involve fans in the decision-making process, Mojang introduced the mob vote to Minecraft Live in recent years, allowing players to vote for the new mobs they'd like to see added to the game. The first in-game voting took place in 2022, with the Sniffer mob, a creature that digs for seeds, triumphing over the Rascal and the Tuff Golem.

In a video shared on the official Minecraft YouTube channel, Mojang offers a sneak peek at the first of three creatures competing for a spot in the game through this year's mob vote. The animated video showcases pixelated developers observing a crab mob from afar, zooming in for a closer look, and explaining its unique ability. With a massive claw on one side of its body, this crab from Minecraft's mangrove swamps, if added to the game, would enable players to place blocks at greater distances than usual.

To secure its place as one of Minecraft's newest mobs, this endearing crustacean must garner support from players during the two-day mob vote. The voting begins on October 13 at 5 pm UTC and runs until 15 minutes before the start of Minecraft Live. This year's mob vote will take place across various online platforms, including Minecraft: Bedrock Edition, the Minecraft launcher, and the game's official website. While the crab's extended reach could be a boon for builders, it faces stiff competition from two yet-to-be-revealed rivals.

Minecraft players eagerly await the results of the mob vote, as the crab could bring exciting possibilities for creating epic constructions in the game. The winner of the mob vote will be unveiled during Minecraft Live on October 15.
