Guild Esports becomes a partner of Difference Makers
British esports organization Guild Esports is now partnering with Difference Makers, an initiative of the Institute of Engineering and Technology.
According to the press release, the partnership aims to advance STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) education concepts and ensure sustainability through competitive gaming. As a result of the deal, the Institute and Guild Esports are organizing a Fortnite tournament with a unique activation - for each game tree felled during the tournament, Difference Makers will plant one tree in real life.
Michelle Tierney, Director of Partnerships at Guild Esports: “By working with Difference Makers, we ensure that sustainability is at the heart of this tournament. Difference Makers demonstrate that games can be good for nature. As an esports organization co-owned by David Beckham "We understand the importance of academy structure and the benefits of education for young people as they develop. We are proud to teach the next generation the skills to understand the critical importance of sustainable development to our future."
In addition, according to the press release, the estimated carbon footprint of the event will also be offset to ensure a net zero impact on the environment.
The tournament, starting on August 27, will bring Fortnite players and Guild Esports content creators to battle against Guild Academy students. Guild Esports members include professional players Hen and Anas, as well as content creators Gee Nelly and TN25.
