Los Grandes acquires Simplicity Esports
Brazilian esports organization Los Grandes has announced it has acquired a 100% stake in the Brazilian branch of the North American organization Simplicity Esports, becoming the sole owner of a slot in the Brazilian League of Legends Championship (CBLOL). Interestingly, not so long ago, the club acquired a 20% stake in the Brazilian branch of Simplicity Esports.
Financial details of the agreement were not disclosed.
Los Grandes now fully owns the assets of Simplicity Esports in Brazil, including its structure, professional players and contracts, including a place in the Brazilian League of Legends Championship and a licensing agreement with Flamengo Football Club.
The CBLOL team will reportedly continue to be known as "Flamengo Los Grandes" until the end of 2022 before becoming "Los Grandes" next year.
The Redragon brand, which owned 7.5% of the Brazilian branch of Simplicity Esports, also bought its stake from Los Grandes. The agreement was negotiated by marketing agency Druid, with OutField Consulting as a consultant and publisher Riot Games sanctioning the deal.
Since late 2021, Simplicity Esports has been under scrutiny by Riot Games and the esports community due to allegations of misconduct and blackmail. The situation worsened after the partial purchase of Los Grandes, when the former academy player Lynkez accused the club of delaying the payment of wages and not providing a proper structure to the players.
These accusations caused a backlash from the Brazilian esports community.
