Emmanuel Macron plans to host major esports championships in France
French President Emmanuel Macron gave an interesting interview to The Big Whale, in which he again engaged the young electorate. In particular, the politician plans to hold major esports championships in France, intending to bring Worlds in League of Legends, The International in Dota 2 or a CS:GO major to the country in the same year as the Olympic Games.
It would be a lie to say that I am a very active gamer, but I belong to a generation that grew up with video games and understands what they represent in terms of culture, especially for our youth. This is a French asset in today's world: we are one of the great nations in video games, recognized worldwide for the merits of our products, the quality of education and the dynamics of the industry.
We are lucky to have a strong French video game industry (Ubisoft, Quantic Dream, Voodoo, etc.). I also don't forget the extent to which video games are part of the issue of mastering cutting-edge technology.
Video games are an important component of French cultural soft power, the image of our country in the world. That's why I want us to have a strategic approach here, too, to continue to create the conditions that make France a video game country: we have introduced a tax credit for video games, we want to make it permanent, and we continue to work on funding the creation of video games and training developers.
Finally, I don't forget esports, another area of French excellence with teams like Team Vitality or Karmine Corp. In this regard, we have a historic opportunity: the 2024 Olympics. We must seize it to link the two worlds' Olympiads by hosting the biggest sporting events in the world this year: the CS:GO Major, the Worlds of League of Legends or The International of Dota 2. This is also the influence of France.
Recall that earlier, as part of the election campaign, Macron introduced his own server in Minecraft. Also, the current President of France does not forget about the traditional sport, maintaining contacts with Killian Mbappe in the hope of keeping the local star in the French Championship.
