The creators of Winamp added support for NFT

The developers of the famous player Winamp announced in a public press release about the innovations that came with version 5.9.1. Now the player has the ability to listen to NFT audio files in the ERC-721 and ERC-1155 formats. This means that in the updated player you can listen to non-interchangeable audio files that position themselves as NFT tokens on Ethereum and Polygon.

In order for users to listen to sound non-fungible tokens, they need to connect the Metamask wallet with the available audio tracks to the browser. There is currently support for three browsers, including Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Brave. The music will open in Winamp as a regular mp3 file.

Winamp CEO Alexander Sabunjyan commented on this update, recalling that at one time their player became one of the key players in the music market, which helped develop the digital audio library field. According to him, this was achieved through high levels of accessibility and innovation, which is now repeated again:

The very essence of the Winamp player is about accessibility and innovation, which is why we are proud to present the first standalone player that reads NFT audio like any other existing format. Winamp played a key role in the development of digital music when the mp3 format changed the way music was listened to. We are now supporting innovation as more musicians explore the Web3 space and its potential.

Winamp wants to not stop there and keep improving music player innovation. Now their next step will be the creation of a special service in which music lovers can track the work of their favorite musicians without any problems. According to Winamp's preliminary forecasts, the new service could be launched early next year. It is worth noting the cross-platform, which the creators of the player want to achieve with this service.
