DreamHack Open Atlanta and DreamHack Open Winter officially canceled
ESL announced changes to the competition calendar. The organizers decided to cancel DreamHack Open Atlanta and DreamHack Open Winter, which were supposed to take place online on November 12-14 and November 26-28, respectively. In addition, ESL has announced another championship to be held from 23 to 28 November.
The organizers did not name specific reasons for the cancellation of the championships, saying that "the calendar in the last quarters of 2021 is overloaded, creating problems when planning online qualifiers and tournaments." In addition, DreamHack Open 47, which was originally supposed to take place in October, has been postponed to November and will be held online right after the PGL Major.
The postponed European tournament, along with the upcoming DreamHack Open September 2021 in North America, South America and Oceania, will provide teams with the opportunity to qualify for the new ESL tournament in November.
Teams that previously qualified for the IEM Fall 2021 by winning the DreamHack Open in June will also be invited to the new event as a result of the transformation of IEM Fall 2021 into RMR tournaments.
ESL also announced that it has begun evaluating the potential of hosting the IEM Winter in LAN format, which the organizer hopes to host as a 16-team EPT Masters from December 2-12 as the final event in 2021.
The updated calendar looks like this:
- DreamHack Open September 2021 - September 22-26 (North America, South America and Oceania);
- DreamHack Open 47 - November 10-14 (Europe);
- TBA - November 23-28 (TBA).
