Copenhagen Flames head coach and co-founder hints at possible roster sale
Daniel Voorborg, head coach and co-founder of the Copenhagen Flames, has hinted at a possible sale of the squad. He expressed his readiness to part with the team and consider proposals not only for the purchase of the entire five, but also for individual cybersportsmen. Remarkably, last year the club already tried to sell its roster, but the deal with Complexity Gaming fell through, according to rumors, due to the excessive demands of Danish esports players.
We have been very open and honest with the players. The main goal was always to find an organization where they could go as a whole five. Over time, both we and the guys themselves agreed that individual proposals for specific players should also be considered. All members of our roster want to play in the ESL Pro League and BLAST tournaments. They also want to receive large salaries. Money is not the main factor, but it is still very important and pleasant.
We recently offered all players to extend their contracts. Some agreed and some refused. Some of the roster have long-term contracts, while some of the players' agreements will end soon. After the Major, there will be more news about the sale of our players. We always told them that if a good offer comes in that suits the player in the first place, then our club will agree. Obviously the Copenhagen Flames will not be giving away their squad for free, but we are very accommodating when it comes to negotiations.
Vorborg soon shared additional information about the negotiations for the sale of the team, which were conducted last year after a successful performance at PGL Major Stockholm 2021. The co-owner of the club stressed that he was shocked by the fact that not a single organization agreed to the low price that was requested for compound. The Copenhagen Flames were asking for just under $500,000, he said. In addition to the publicly known fact of interest from Complexity Gaming, one of the interested organizations was the North American TSM, Woborg added.
The last Copenhagen Flames line-up was formed in May last year. In 12 months, the Danish team became the winner of BLAST Rising 2021, Malta Vibes Knockout Series #4, Pelaajat.com Nordic Masters: Spring 2022 and PGL Major Antwerp 2022: European RMR B, and also got into the top three at Funspark ULTI 2021: Europe Season 3, Elisa Invitational Winter 2021 and Pinnacle Cup III.
At the same time, the best achievement of the team is getting into the quarterfinals of PGL Major Antwerp 2022, in which Copenhagen Flames will play against ENCE tomorrow, May 19.
The Copenhagen Flames line-up is currently as follows:
- Jabby.
- nicoodoz.
- roeJ.
- HooXi.
- Zyphon.
- vorborg (coach).
