Since the beginning of the pandemic, Gabe Newell has been in New Zealand. During this time, the founder of Valve managed to obtain citizenship, as he repeatedly organized charitable events, thereby investing in the country's economy.

Since New Zealand is one of the few countries where the COVID-19 pandemic has been contained, Gabe wants to meet with the country's prime minister to discuss a possible move for Valve to that particular place. The temporary relocation will allow Valve to work as usual, without fear for the health of employees.

Pandemic hit productivity hard

Like most companies, Valve was forced to send full-time employees to work remotely. This affected both the development of new projects and the support of old ones.

Valve is ready to release new games

Gabe Newell confirmed that Valve currently has many projects in development, but they may not announce them for a long time. He explained this by the fact that during development, the authors often change ideas, which during the process change one or another aspect of the game. As a result, the players do not get exactly what they expected and they do not like it.

Gabe also mentioned how much Half-Life: Alyx has inspired the development team. According to Newell, the authors of Alyx are ready to work on new projects, but the coronavirus is very much slowing down the whole process.

Valve has big plans forVR technology

Most of the conversation was about virtual reality. Unfortunately, most of Gabe's statements remained under the NDA, but you can still find out something. So, for example, the director of Valve believes that virtual reality headsets will replace monitors in the foreseeable future, and VR devices will become cheaper and better. Newell also assured that Valve will do its best to increase the quality of virtual reality.
