Three Games That to Look Forward to in 2023

The video game industry is one of the most successful entertainment industry of all time. While the first video game was created in 1958, the gaming industry proper can be said to have started in the 80s, with the release of the Nintendo Entertainment System, and the first Mario Bros game.

In those days, video games were considered little more than toys for children. And while the NES was incredibly successful, no adult would have gotten it for themselves. And if some did, they were considered weird.

Gaming Today

Since those days, the video game industry has grown at an unprecedented rate. Today it is a billion-dollar industry, and games are placed on the same pedestal as film. There is a debate going around in regards to the artistry behind video games, and whether or not they should be considered art.

One side claims that games involve a significant amount of skill, creativity, and thought to create, and should therefore be considered art. The other point of view seems to be that, because video games are interactive, they ought not to be considered art. Because art is not interactive (how true this is, is up for debate).

Regardless of where you land on the topic, the debate is raging on, and games are gaining more and more attention. Nowadays, video games are being produced for people of all walks of life. Mobile puzzle games, like Candy Crush, are incredibly popular. The iGaming industry is also gaining traction. Just recently, Michigan has legalized online casinos like Time2play, where you can find classic games like slots, blackjack, etc.

But, most notable are the Triple A games released every year. Triple A games are to the gaming industry; what summer blockbusters are to the film industry. Big-budget, action-packed, and widely appealing. In this article, we are going to take a look at the most anticipated games of 2023, and discuss what makes them so worth looking forward to.

Diablo IV

Fans of role-playing games will already be familiar with Blizzard’s Diablo series. Undoubtedly, one of the most popular and beloved fantasy, action RPGs of all time, the Diablo series has been going strong since the late 90s. The first game was released in 1997 to incredible acclaim. The success of Diablo, both online and offline, quickly prompted a sequel.

In 2000, Diablo II hit the shelves. Unsurprisingly, Diablo II garnered massive success, and was even elected Game of the Year. It was the first time that an RPG won the Game of the Year award, and as we can see in 2022, definitely not the last, as Elden Ring is the uncontested favorite to win the award this year around.

Diablo III hit the shelves in 2012, 12 years after the release of the sequel. Fans, new and old, made the game an instant success, and so the sequel ought not to have been far behind. And yet, it took 11 years for Blizzard to come out with the fourth installment. In this case, the anticipation served them well, and Diablo IV is by far one of the most anticipated games of 2023. Many fans are hoping for a return to the roots of Diablo. In any case, we remain hugely excited for its release.

Hogwarts Legacy

In 1997, J. K. Rowling released the first in what would become one of the most successful book series of all time. The wonderful world of Harry Potter has won the hearts and minds of millions of people from all over the world. Films, video games, amusement parks, and a ton of merchandise has been made, depicting the boy with the scar.

Even now that the books and films are done, new films in the franchise are being released. However, despite it all, an original Harry Potter game has never been made. Until, now. Hogwarts Legacy is an upcoming action/adventure RPG, created by Avalanche Software.

The game will take place in the 1890s, with the player being able to create their own Hogwarts student. The plot of the game is going to take place on Hogwarts grounds, where players will be able to explore all of the classic locations from the films and novels.

The game has caused a massive commotion, as gamers and fans of the series from all over the world will finally be able to explore all of the familiar locations, and act as if they are really there. Hopefully, the game will live up to the high expectations that the fan base has set up for it.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

In 2018, Insomniac Gaming released Marvel’s Spider-Man. Spider-Man-based games have always been hit-or-miss, and in this case, it certainly was a massive hit. Set in New York City, the game allowed players to take control of Peter Parker, and explore the city, facing down against some of Spider-Man’s most well-known villains, including Electro, Hammerhead, and Mister Negative.

In 2020, a spin-off/sequel was released, starring Peter Parker’s successor and protégé, Miles Morales. A well-known, and beloved character in his own right, Miles Morales has the exact same powers as Peter Parker, with a few extra benefits. Both games were hugely successful, so it isn’t a surprise that a new one is just around the corner.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is scheduled to be released in 2023. Thus far, we know very little about the game’s story. Presumably, it will take place in New York City, and from what we can ascertain from the trailer, players will be able to control both Miles Morales and Peter Parker this time around. We know that Venom has been confirmed for the game, and a lot of people are suspecting that Kraven the Hunter will also make an appearance.

If the previous two games are anything to go by, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will be a massive hit. Not at all surprising, considering Spider-Man is one of Marvel’s most recognizable heroes, and one of the most popular superheroes of all time, standing alongside legends like Batman and Superman.
